Mitchell Park Bar
Less than ten years after opening the Mitchell
Park Tennis & Squash Centre had its first extensions in 1972, with the
addition of two more squash courts, a spectator gallery and bar.
Daily patronage has dropped over the years due to the change in Kiwi's drink
habits, but enough people still go upstairs for a couple of drinks to make it
worth while opening. It is open seven days a week, from 5:30pm Monday to
Fridays and 4:00pm on the weekend. During tournaments and special events the
hours are extended.
Because the bar operates with a club licence the sale of alcohol is restricted
to members of the Hutt Valley Tennis Association, Mitchell Park Squash Club, and
their signed in guests. The bar is an undesignated area, so children are allow
unaccompanied in the bar, but we prefer that children under 16 have their
parents or guardian close by.
The Mitchell Park Bar has an excellent responsibility record, and our licence
allows us to be open till 1am every night. Of course this rarely happens, with
the bar closing once numbers drop to five, and this happens between 9 to 11pm.
The bar is operated by the Squash Club.
